Funding Schemes Available
ECO4
The main government scheme for low-income households. Provides grants for:
- Insulation (cavity, wall, loft)
- Renewable heating
- Solar panels
GBIS – The Great British Insulation Scheme
Designed to cut bills by improving home insulation. Provides free or discounted insulation for homes with:
- Energy rating D–G (check on your EPC certificate)
- Council Tax band A–E in Scotland (A–D in England)
Local Authority Funding
Some councils offer additional support for residents with health conditions, older households, or families with young children.
Home Energy Scotland
For households not on benefits, Home Energy Scotland offers grants of up to £9,000 and interest-free loans to cover additional costs.

Who Qualifies for ECO4?
To be eligible, you must:
- Live in a property with a low energy efficiency rating (E–G)
- Live in a home with high energy costs
- And/or receive a qualifying benefit
Qualifying Benefits Include:
- Child Tax Credits (restrictions apply)
- Child Benefit (restrictions apply)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
- Universal Credit (UC)
- Working Tax Credit (WTC)
- Housing Benefit

Additional Eligibility Routes
You may also qualify if your household includes:
- People with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions
- People with disabilities or mental health conditions
- Someone over the age of 65
